Our berths in the marina
The original idea of a communal facility for Hamburg yachtsmen goes back to the time before the First World War. The first Hamburg marina was built in Waltershof, near Finkenwerder, to meet the demand for berths at the time. At the beginning of the 1960s, the Hamburg marina with around 400 berths found its final home in the estuary of the Wedeler Au after ‘Waltershof’ had to make way for the harbour expansion. Today, the Hamburg marina is one of the largest and most modern tide-independent facilities for pleasure craft in Europe, with over 1,950 berths over a length of 4.6 kilometres.
The harbour is operated by the Hamburger Yachthafen-Gemeinschaft (HYG), an association of non-profit clubs that are members of the Deutscher Segler-Verband e.V. or Deutscher Motoryacht-Verband e.V. and are also members of their respective state association and state sports association. At the annual general meeting, the member clubs are not only given an account of the past financial year, but the course for the future is also set.
In the winter of 1996/97, as part of the harbour's conversion to flood-proof steel piles, the Schlengel facility was enlarged to a berth capacity of 2100 boats, of which 1950 berths have currently been completed. Free berths are therefore available again.
The berths are equipped with electricity and fresh water connections. Disposal facilities for oil or contaminated bilge water are available in the harbour, as well as a 15 t crane, a slipway, 3 mast cranes, a petrol station, modern sanitary facilities, the harbour restaurant ‘La Vela’ and all the facilities that are a matter of course for a modern harbour today.
With over 1,000 berths, there is ample parking space for motor vehicles.
The winter storage

In winter stock, around 750 boats are stored in four halls on a total of 12,000 m² of hall space and 14,000 m² of outdoor storage, which are brought ashore in autumn and into the water in spring by the company's own staff.
In September 2000, a new 4700 m² winter storage hall was completed. This also has a large mast store and a modern sanitary block.
